Reading High Football has been known for its running backs. From Lenny More to Elly Salamo, we have always had a stable of guys. This 2024-2025 football season for the Red Knights will be no different.
One standout is Alexis Alvarado, recently named one of the top 10 running backs in Berks County by the Reading Eagle. Returning as the leading rusher for Reading High, Alexis is a two-year starter in the Red Knights’ backfield and a true “lightning in a bottle.”
Alexis’s Football Accomplishments
- 2023 Lancaster-Lebanon Section 1 First Team Offense – RB
- 2023 BCIAA Second Team Offense – RB
Alexis Alvarado is the returning running back from the 2023-2024 season. Standing at 5’8” and weighing 165 lbs, Alexis plays bigger than his size, fighting for every yard. He possesses unmatched field vision and the ability to cut on a dime, making him a north-south runner who is both durable and consistent. Alexis is one of the top running backs in the Lancaster Lebanon League.
Regardless of his success last year, Alexis remains humble, connecting well with his teammates and the community. He’s the kind of player who values the concept of playing “for the greater good.”
Already off to a great start, Alexis rushed for over 100 yards in the season opener against Phoenixville. With more talented skilled players on the outside and the athleticism at the quarterback position, opponents will face a challenge loading the box to stop him.
Expectations for the 2024 Season
First Team Offense for running back, again! Last year, he rushed for over 800 yards so it’s not unrealistic for him to get 1000 yards this time around. We could not tell you the last time a Red Knight running back hit that mark!
The offensive line will play a major part in clearing the way for Alvarado giving him more opportunities to “run the rock” this season with more favorable fronts. There is even potential for him to contribute more on defense and display his versatility on the field. As one of the most durable and consistent running backs in the Lancaster Lebanon League be prepared to see the work Alexis puts in—fighting for every yard, every touchdown, and every victory, not just for himself, but for the Red Knights community that has supported him every step of the way.
The Future
We guess that Alexis will have options to play D3 college football at the end of the season. This individual success on the field should open a few eyes! The next step will be evaluating his options and picking a destination that serves his career goals!
